Piano concert January 14

Olmsted Community Church is pleased to welcome Joshua Hess to the piano bench as part of the 2017-18 recital series.

Joshua Hess is a native of Albany, CA and is a 2016 graduate in Piano Performance from Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Oberlin, OH.

Joshua studied piano with Dr. Robert Shannon while at Oberlin, and studied piano previously with John McCarthy; Director Emeritus of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and widely known as one of the leading pedagogues in piano. Joshua has done additional work accompanying masterclasses with baritone Thomas Hampson and violist Jeffrey Irvine.

Some performance venues include Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Oberlin, OH; the Unitarian Universalist Church of Fairfax, VA for the Oberlin at Oakton Music Series; and now Olmsted Community Church in Olmsted Falls, OH.

Joshua has recorded works including the Schumann Piano Quintet, the complete Brahms F minor Piano Sonata, the Berg Piano Sonata, and select pieces by Chopin.

In his January concert Joshua will perform works by Chopin, Berg, Scarlatti, Joplin and others.

Other works performed by Joshua include Nikolai Kapustin’s Etudes in Different Intervals, Arnold Schoenberg’s Sechs Kleine Klavierstucke, Alexander Scriabin’s Piano Sonata No. 9 ‘Black Mass,’ and Johannes Brahms’ 7 Fantasien Op. 116, and Clarinet Sonata No. 2.
